Dinos Mitoglou had tested positive after an anti-doping control before the match against Panathinaikos with Milan on March 4, 2022, his hearing was completed in December and FIBA punished him with a 2,5 years ban, per sources.
The official announcement is expected soon, the exact sentence may be a bit longer and reach the sum of 32 months, while the 26-year-old Greek player has the right to appeal his sanction.
Still, Mitoglou can’t expect much, if anything, for the current season which is lost. Initially, his side was hoping for a one-year ban that would permit him to return to action before the end of this season.
He is expected to appeal and there’s hope that he may be available for the upcoming FIBA World Cup where he can compete with the Greek national team.
However, considering the time it took for the sanction to be decided in the first degree, it seems at this point that time is not on his side.
