The 2022-23 campaign has been extremely unkind to head coach Andrea Trinchieri and especially to the players of FC Bayern Munich constantly picking up injuries and missing games.

Augustine Rubit became the latest entrant to the injury list. The experienced big, recently named January MVP in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, underwent surgery and was sidelined indefinitely.

“He is currently being operated on in Murnau near Munich. It doesn’t look good. It’s an injury to the Achilles tendon,” Bayern’s general manager Marko Pesic revealed to German television before the championship game of the BBL-Pokal Final Four Sunday.

The Munich outfit went on to win the German Cup. However, the former South Alabama standout did not play in the final. He was forced to an early exit early in the fourth quarter of the Final Four semifinal opposite ALBA Berlin. Rubit was helped off the court and left Große EWE Arena in crutches.

The first Bayern player to win a monthly MVP award in Europe’s premier club continental competition was sidelined just as team captain Vladimir Lucic finally returned to action since hurting his elbow in November. Corey Walden and Cassius Winston were also back in the Final Four, but Elias Harris (foot) remained unavailable alongside Zan Mark Sisko (personal).

After the domestic Cup, Trinchieri’s side is heading to Round 25 of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season paying a visit to Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv Thursday. Sitting at 9-15 packing three losses in a row, four wins separate Bayern from the Playoffs zone.
