Efes seems to be locked in on bringing Xavi Pascual on board.

Xavi Pascual is strongly in the mix for the head coach position at Anadolu Efes as Moshe Barda reports and Eurohoops can confirm.

Efes has been looking for head coach Ergin Ataman’s replacement since the latter is on his way to take over Panathinaikos Athens next season. The two-time EuroLeague champions won’t be making any final decision before the completion of the second round of the Turkish presidential election (Sunday 28/5).

Pascual has been the main focus of Efes these last couple of months. While he’s under contract with Zenit St. Petersburg there’s an opt-out clause that he can exercise and become a free agent.

If Efes signs Pascual then the Spanish coach will return to Euroleague. He won the championship in 2010 with Barcelona while leading the team to the Final Four in 2009, 2012, 2013 and 2014. In 2015 he parted ways with the Blaugrana and then coached Panathinaikos from 2016 to 2018.

Zenit brought over Pascual in 2020 and he helped the team reach the EuroLeague playoffs for the first time in the history of the club in 2021.
