Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv and Jake Cohen committed to staying together for two more seasons.
Cohen, 32, inked a two-year contract extension, the team announced Wednesday.
Per the press release: “Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv extended Jake Cohen’s contract for two more seasons. The 32-year-old forward, one of the team’s anchors this past season, will complete nine seasons at the club in four different stints. The extension comes at the hills of a season where Cohen settled as a starter for coach Oded Kattash, contributing both on and off the court.
“Everyone is happy that Jake continues with us”, said head coach Oded Kattash, “He had a big part in the team’s chemistry this season and had a great contribution. He is a very smart player who brings his experience and abilities on and off the court”.
“To become a Maccabist has been a great honor in my career, so I am thrilled to continue with a club that has become my family”, admitted Jake Cohen, “I am so grateful for the amazing gift of love that the fans, staff, owners, and my teammates gave me this past year to make it possible. When you have a special group of people around you, you can do special things! Yalla Maccabi”.
Jake Cohen took part in all 27 regular season games for Maccabi in the Israeli league, playing 16.6 minutes per game and delivering 7.7 points with 62% accuracy for 2 points, 51% for 3 and 88% from the line. He also added 3 rebounds per game and played with lots of heart, intelligence and leadership. In the Playoffs run that concluded with his fourth championship, Jake made 5.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while starting 7 of 8 games.
In the EuroLeague, the veteran forward started 17 out of 27 games he participated in, playing a big part in the push for the playoffs. He took part in all 5 games in the Monaco series, with an 8-point, 4-rebound performance in Game 4.
Cohen began his basketball journey with Davidson University and first joined Maccabi in the summer of 2013, before moving on to Rishon LeZion. The next season, Jake returned to Yad Eliyahu for a season that culminated with an Israeli Cup, and then played for Aris Thessaloniki and Maccabi Ashdod. He was brought back to Maccabi in 2017 and won three consecutive championships. After a detour at Obradoiro in Spain, Jake made his return home to Maccabi in 2021.”
