As of today, July 20, Barcelona has finally taken the essential step to facilitate the departure of Nikola Mirotic from the club.

In a brief statement, Barça announced that they have notified the legal representatives of the Montenegrin player about the termination of his contract.

This official notification marks a crucial move towards the player’s dismissal, initiating the process to terminate the contract that currently binds both parties until 2025. In the same statement, Barça refers to the “Economic Viability Plan” as the driving force behind this decision.

Mirotic had 22,000,000 euros guaranteed for the next two years, and it seems that Barcelona’s decision to terminate the contract, despite not reaching an agreement with his representatives for the release, will move the whole saga, as well as the decision of the compensation, to the court of law, as Mundo Deportivo reported.

Meanwhile, per multiple sources, Mirotic is expected to continue his career in Partizan and even traveled recently to Belgrade, a visit that fuelled reports about him finalizing the deal.

Nikola Mirotic played for four years in Barcelona’s jersey and won two ACB Leagues (2021 and 2023), two Copas del Rey (2020 and 2022), and has been present in three Euroleague Final Fours (2021, 2022, and 2023). In 2022, he won the EuroLeague MVP award, while last season he averaged 15.4 points and 4.3 rebounds in the top European competition, and 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in Spain.
