Facundo Campazzo signed with Real Madrid even tho he had better offers

Almost three years later, Facu Campazzo will play for Real Madrid again. The player’s desire to wear white again weighed more heavily on the Argentine point guard than the higher offers he received.

In an interview with Básquet Plus, Campazzo spoke of his return to the capital, almost forced by everything that has continued to unite Madrid during his time in Denver, Dallas, and Belgrade.

The point guard answered did he stopped having Real Madrid in his head at some point.

In the NBA you need to be 100%. If not, you’re not. I always kept in touch, I watched ACB games, Euroleague… I have my house too, my daughter was born there… so you’re always linked. Even if I say yes, I was always tied to Madrid“.

He signed with Real Madrid even tho he had better offers.

I am not going to be stupid, but my decisions are not going to be based mainly on money. I put many more things on the scale. Money is a factor, but not the main one. That’s how it went. I feel at home in Madrid, I have many things linked to Real Madrid -on and off the pitch-, and I felt that it was the place where I had to try to be. I had other offers, but I think that in the balance there were more positive things about Madrid. In the end, I didn’t doubt it for a second.”

His expectations before starting training with Real Madrid

When talking about Madrid, always have high expectations, the best. Trying to be in the game that makes you win the European Cup, the Super Cup, the Copa del Rey or the League. Get there and win it. That is the responsibility and pressure of playing for Madrid. It will not be an exception. They come from winning the Euroleague, but when a season begins one sets the same goal as the previous one. I feel super motivated, anxious and wanting to be there. The adaptation process will not be difficult“.

Argentina, without World Cup.

It was a very hard blow. It was a tough locker room, too. It was a game [against the Dominican Republic] that we had to win to qualify. It was a final for us because of how everything happened. After the game it was tough. I had to go with the Red Star two days later and it was a bit difficult for me to follow, train, change the chip. It never happened to me. That pain will always be there. That has to be our fuel for what is to come.”
