Olympiacos and Panathinaikos, Panathinaikos and Olympiacos, the eternal rivals of Greek sports simply don’t get along. On the other hand, you can’t imagine the one without the other and that’s why this rivalry takes another turn in basketball.
Coaches Ergin Ataman and Giorgos Bartzokas met and talked in front of the cameras about basketball and the two teams, how you built a roster, and what it takes to win the title.
Both know it after all, with Ataman winning back-to-back trophies with Anadolu Efes and Bartzokas becoming the first Greek coach to win the EuroLeague back in 2013.
“What I say is I have to accept that Ergin is a is one of the highest level European coaches, and it’s an honor for us in the domestic league that we have Ergin here”, said Bartzokas about his rival and also a good friend.
“I like to say similar things also for you because you won the Euroleague here and you work in the big clubs in, Europe”, added Ataman, returning the favour.
With both admitting that the rivalry is heated, they also agreed as Bartzokas commented: “Somehow we need to calm down, you know because sports is very important, but it’s not the most important part of our life. Every time on the planet crazy things are happening. So sports has to be something that makes us, you know, happy”.
