Olimpia Milano made it official, as Rodney McGruder joins Ettore Messina’s team. The two sides reached an agreement until the end of the season.

“As we enter the decisive phase of the season, we have decided to deepen our guard department with an athletic player who has the skills and the character necessary to adapt well to our needs,” the general manager of Italian team Christos Stavropoulos said.

The former NBA player is excited for the new opportunity in his career.
“It is a pleasure to be a part of such a historic organization and to play for the fans of this beautiful city. I can’t wait to get on the court and compete to get all the wins we can possibly can. Milan, I’m excited,” says Rodney McGruder.

Recently, Milano’s head coach Messina exercised his right of silence when asked about McGruder’s potential arrival, but the move to Mediolanum Forum quickly became official.

McGruder went undrafted in 2013, after spending four years at Kansas State, and made his first steps in professional basketball with the Hungarian side Atomeromeu. He then played for two years in the G League before getting his first NBA chance with the Miami Heat in 2016. Since then, he played for the LA Clippers and Detroit Pistons, securing 318 regular-season appearances with averages of 5.7 points and 2.8 rebounds, shooting 36% from beyond the arc.

The 32-year-old guard then signed with the Golden State Warriors last September but got waived on October 20.

Olimpia Milano reacted after a series of injuries and, after bringing back Shabazz Napier from Crvena Zvezda, added another important piece to its backcourt.
