A twist on the relationship between T.J. Parker and LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne.

A few months after parting ways with the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague club, he intends to go to court in an attempt to reach an agreement on his compensation for the early termination of his contract, according to a report by French outlet Basket Europe on Friday. A meeting in court is projected for June, added Le Progres.

Parker, 39, reportedly presented his case to the Conseil de Prud’hommes, CPH, an employment tribunal to settle issues between employers and employees in France.

His brother, Tony Parker has been the president of ASVEL since 2014, five years after buying a minority stake in the team based in Villeurbanne, a suburb of Lyon. His playing days were highlighted by capturing four NBA championships with the San Antonio Spurs.

A former player himself as well, a Northwestern alumni with a brief professional run in France, T.J. coached ASVEL at the end of the 2017-18 season and from 2020 until last November. Between 2014 and 2020, except for his spell as an interim play-caller, he worked as an assistant coach.

With Pierric Poupet taking over head-coaching responsibilities, ASVEL progressed to 7-25 in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, ranked 17th out of 18 teams with two games remaining in the double-legged round-robin schedule of the Regular Season. At the domestic level, a 19-7 record is tied with Paris in second place of the Betclic Elite standings, five games behind leading AS Monaco.
