The Greek government and local authorities in Athens and the region of Attica were willing to support a bid for the 2026 EuroLeague Final Four.
However, after the latest incidents in the Greek Finals, everything is put on hold.
As Eurohoops has reported, the interest was there due to the renovated OAKA arena, but no official bid had been made yet.
In light of everything that happened in the last two days, and with the Greek League finals suspended, all the officials involved in the preliminary talks are having second thoughts per Eurohoops sources.
It has to be noted that during the outburst after Game 2, Olympiacos owner Giorgos Aggelopoulos directly mentioned the plans for the hosting of the upcoming Final Four, saying about Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos: “This is the guy that some want to award him with the EuroLeague Final Four at OAKA”.
At this point, Olympiacos is not willing to join Panathinaikos in the proposed meeting on Wednesday in the Greek Ministry of Sports.
