Luca Banchi, who took over Anadolu Efes from Erdem Can midway through the season and nearly led the team to the EuroLeague Final Four, may be heading back to Italy next season.
According to Backdoorpodcast, Banchi has received an offer from Olimpia Milano—not to become the head coach, but to serve as an assistant under Ettore Messina.
However, the possibility reportedly exists for Banchi to take on a larger role in the future, potentially becoming the head of the coaching staff down the line.
Banchi previously served as Olimpia Milano’s head coach from 2013 to 2015, winning the Italian championship in 2014. He is currently leading Efes in the Turkish BSL semifinals against Besiktas, with the series tied 1-1.
Olimpia Milano recently appointed Daniele Baiesi as new sports director.
