Trey Lyles has become one of the stars of European basketball since joining Real Madrid. The former NBA player spoke to the media in the Spanish capital before flying to Athens to play in the EuroLeague Final Four.
He spoke about his future with the team, the team’s dynamics, and the “fight” against Valencia Basket in the Final Four semifinals.
“I came here to win titles, and now I have the opportunity to win one. It means a lot, and it means a lot to the team too”, he said to Real Madrid TV. “We arrived at the Final Four at just the right time”, he added.
Afterwards, he spoke to the media present. Lyles has become a European star since arriving at Real Madrid, and he’s looking forward to the Final Four.
“I’m excited, that’s why I came here, to be in a position to play the Final Four. We’ve played well enough this season to get there. We’re at the spot where we should be, so I’m really excited”, Lyles answered the media.
With Edy Tavares and Alex Len sidelined, Trey Lyles will have to play center at times. The Canadian doesn’t hesitate to take on that responsibility.
“I think I’d probably play the 5 better than the 4 with this team, just to be a little more involved with the pick&roll and making decisions. I think that’s a mismatch for the other team, I’m capable of guarding bigger guys. I’ve done that years in the past, it’s something I’m comfortable with”, he said.
“This will be our seventh time playing this year, so we know each other pretty well. I’m expecting a fight. All the games we’ve player have been really tough, competitive games, and it will be a fast-paces game”, Lyles added.
Lyles was also asked if he feels comfortable in Madrid and intends to stay at the club. “I’ve been experiencing the city and the fans, and knowledge. Is a great city to live in, is a great club to be a part of, so that’s the plan right now”, he concluded.
