All-EuroLeague First Team guard Jean Montero has turned down a contract extension offer from Valencia and reached a pre-agreement to join Greek powerhouse Olympiacos, according to a report by Mundo Deportivo on Saturday.

The 22-year-old Dominican sensation recently captured both the Rising Star award for the 2025-26 EuroLeague Regular Season and the Most Valuable Player distinction in the ensuing Playoffs. Following a breakout continental campaign, he has reportedly opted to move on despite a massive financial push from the Taronges. Following failed negotiations and subsequent interest from several rival EuroLeague organizations, Olympiacos quickly emerged as the frontrunner for his coveted signature.

Prioritizing a future jump to the NBA, Montero remains keen on securing a flexible NBA exit clause in his next deal. This allows the young guard to keep his ultimate dream of playing in the United States alive once the right sporting guarantees materialize.

His departure marks the end of a historic run with Valencia, where he averaged 14.4 points, 4.8 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game in his first EuroLeague journey. His stellar individual campaign led the club to the 2026 EuroLeague Final Four Athens, presented by Etihad, cementing his status as one of Europe’s premier talents just one year after being named the Rising Star of the BKT EuroCup.

Meanwhile, the Spanish club is already pivoting to life after the explosive floor general, who has been with the team since the start of the 2024-25 season and is a regular with the Dominican Republic national team. The front office is actively scouring the market for backcourt replacements, and Panathinaikos Aktor guard T.J. Shorts II has already surfaced as a primary target to fill the vacant point guard position, as noted by Mundo Deportivo.
