ATHENS – The tension at the Telekom Center Athens reached a boiling point during the highly anticipated 2026 EuroLeague Final Four Athens, presented by Etihad, championship game between Olympiacos and Real Madrid.
With 5:59 remaining on the clock in the third quarter, a dramatic and physical sequence threatened to derail the flow of the Final, underscoring the immense stakes of Europe’s premier basketball showcase. At the time of the incident, a relentless Olympiacos squad held a narrow two-point advantage, desperately trying to protect their slim lead against the Spanish powerhouse.
The arena erupted when Madrid’s star point guard Facundo Campazzo lost his footing and crashed heavily to the floor. As the Argentinian playmaker attempted to pick himself back up, he appeared to strike Olympiacos guard Shaquielle McKissic directly in the groin area. The controversial contact instantly sparked a volatile reaction from McKissic, leading to an immediate physical altercation between the two fierce competitors. Realizing the danger of the situation, teammates and coaching staff from both sides rushed onto the floor, acting quickly to separate the hostile players and successfully avoiding a larger, bench-clearing escalation.
Following an extensive video review at the monitor to assess the damage, the officiating crew determined that both athletes crossed the line. The referees assessed a double technical foul to penalize the unsportsmanlike behavior. This disciplinary decision had immediate tactical ramifications for the remainder of the contest, leaving McKissic with two personal fouls on his stat sheet, while pushing the heavily utilized Campazzo dangerously close to foul trouble with three personal infractions.
