Thomas Walkup was present at the Stoiximan 22oz Elite Basketball Tournament at “Makis Liougas” and expressed his eagerness for a new year better in all aspects, from titles for Olympiacos to everyone’s behavior.
“As you said, we won almost everything this year (i.e., Super Cup, EuroLeague & GBL in that order), we will try for everything next year. I’ve said from the beginning that I want the Triple Crown, we’re still chasing it. We won the EuroLeague, we want the back-to-back. This is the ambition of everyone, and ours in the locker room. We will try,” he said from Glyfada and the tournament with the AntetokounBros as ambassadors.
And while he avoided commenting on others’ transfer scenarios, saying that “I have great trust in both the administration and the coaching staff in whatever they do,” he is sure of himself.
“You always need to be somewhere where you are respected, appreciated. Perfect if it’s here. If it’s not here, then it’s not. It’s very important to have the respect and appreciation of your team and your employers.”
“We like it here,” said the 34-year-old American, also a holder of a Greek passport, who has a contract “only” until 2027.
However, they do not like everything in Greece. An exception, and how else, is the toxicity in the rivalry between Olympiacos & Panathinaikos and not only.
“Sure, there can be tension on the court, but most of it starts off the court. We saw players being very physical with each other, but the problem is much deeper, it has to do with things far beyond basketball. I wish we could put an ‘end’ to it. Kids see everything. We need to be role models for the kids, not toxic, not fighting, and not arguing,” he concluded and sent the message for a better “tomorrow.”
