After missing this last season’s Final Four, which was held in its very own arena, Panathinaikos wants to be once again one of the best teams in Europe and the rebuild has officially started after announcing the arrival of Željko Obradović.

The Serbian legendary coach is back after more than ten years and his reunion with Panathinaikos is has made history: Obradovic signed a three-year contract worth €12 million net.

The deal, which averages €4 million net per season, is the largest coaching contract ever signed in European basketball and underscores the Greens’ determination to remain at the forefront of the EuroLeague title race for years to come.

Obradović’s return to Athens reunites one of the most successful coach-club partnerships in the history of European basketball. During his previous tenure with Panathinaikos from 1999 to 2012, the Serbian mastermind led the club to five EuroLeague championships and established a dynasty that dominated both domestic and continental competition.

The financial terms of the agreement set a new benchmark for coaches across Europe, reflecting Obradović’s unparalleled résumé and standing within the game. No coach on the continent has won more EuroLeague titles, and his arrival immediately raises expectations around Panathinaikos’ long-term ambitions.
