Olympiacos has moved a step closer to using Sunel Arena as its temporary home after AEK granted the club a provisional venue authorization.
The document will allow Olympiacos to complete its application to the Greek Professional Sports Committee, which must approve the relocation of the club’s home games to Ano Liosia while renovation works at the Peace and Friendship Stadium (SEF) are underway.
According to reports, the agreement between the two clubs has not yet been finalized, but negotiations are in their final stages and a deal is expected to be completed in the coming days.
If finalized, Olympiacos will host its EuroLeague and Greek League home games at Sunel Arena until the renovation and reconstruction of SEF are completed, a project expected to be finished by January 2027 at the latest.
The two sides are still discussing the final terms of the agreement, including the duration of the lease, the rental fee—which is expected to exceed €1 million—and Olympiacos‘ responsibilities regarding any potential damages to the arena.
The arrangement would allow Olympiacos to remain in the Athens metropolitan area during the renovation of SEF, avoiding the need to relocate elsewhere. Meanwhile, AEK would receive a significant financial boost through the rental agreement, helping fund operational expenses and future signings.
