Ofer Yannay, the owner of Hapoel Tel Aviv, has often caught attention with his words or actions, mainly through social media.
He did so once again with a post on “X,” writing his own farewell to Johnathan Motley, who will be playing for Crvena zvezda in the next season season.
In an aside about Valencia, he took a jab at Ergin Ataman, saying, “it is possible to win a series against Valencia“.
“Johnathan Motley was the first experienced player to join the ambitious but small and humble Hapoel Tel Aviv. His arrival at the club laid the foundations for all the talented players who followed and helped form the wonderful Hapoel team of the 2024/25 season, which won the Eurocup, with Mot being named the MVP of the finals.
The title was won in a year when Israel was at war, without a single game being played in Israel. This makes this achievement even greater than Partizan’s away championship win in 1992. To achieve this, we also had to win a playoff series against the excellent Valencia, a powerful team that many deemed unbeatable (which went on to participate in the Euroleague Final Four the following year).
By the way, Ergin — it is possible to win a series against Valencia…
JM you will always be in our hearts and our history, you will always be part of our family and you can always count on my friendship.
Red Star, please take good care of him.”
