Hapoel Tel Aviv has officially announced that it will begin the 2026–27 season based in Sofia, Bulgaria, due to the deteriorating security situation in Israel.

The EuroLeague club confirmed it will operate from two bases—Sofia and Israel—in order to ensure the best possible preparation for the upcoming campaign and maintain flexibility across all competitions.

According to the club’s statement, the team will initially be based in the Bulgarian capital, a decision designed to minimize potential disruptions to its schedule while allowing it to adapt quickly to changing circumstances.

Hapoel also stressed that the arrangement is not necessarily permanent. The club will continue to monitor developments closely and, should the security situation improve, will reconsider moving its primary base of operations back to Israel.

The announcement comes as Israeli clubs continue to navigate logistical challenges caused by the ongoing security situation, with European competitions once again requiring contingency plans ahead of the new season.
