Uruguayan veteran playmaker Jayson Granger has officially announced his retirement from professional basketball, concluding a highly respected career spanning nearly two decades in Europe’s elite leagues.
Reflecting on his journey with a sense of fulfillment, the 36-year-old guard expressed that he steps away ‘with a full heart, with the peace of mind of having given it my all’.
He extended a deeply felt appreciation to his former clubs, stating that they helped him grow ‘as a player, as a professional, and, above all, as a person.’

Granger’s retirement marks the end of a notable legacy, particularly within the EuroLeague where his rugged style and playmaking prowess made him a staple for top-tier organizations. His continental journey truly accelerated during a standout two-year stint with Unicaja Malaga, peaking statistically in the 2014-15 season when he averaged 10.2 points and 4.2 assists per game.
This excellence earned him an All-ACB First Team selection and paved the way for high-profile moves across the map. He went on to spend two seasons in Turkey with Anadolu Efes, followed by a productive three-year run with Baskonia.
He later signed with ALBA Berlin for the 2020–21 campaign, a year defined by capturing both the German easyCredit BBL championship title and the Finals Most Valuable Player award. Granger’s path was additionally decorated by an ACB championship with Baskonia in 2020 and a brief spell with Umana Reyer Venice in Italy. In his twilight years, he returned to his roots to play for Penarol in his native Uruguay, and finished his career back with Movistar Estudiantes.
Having achieved far more than ‘that child could have ever imagined’, Granger leaves behind an enduring impact as one of Uruguay’s greatest exports.
