The club legend will leave his position as general manager but remain connected to the basketball department

Juan Carlos Navarro will remain with Barcelona and fulfill his contract despite stepping down as general manager of the basketball department, according to SPORT.

Navarro has not been involved in building the roster for the upcoming season in recent months, with sporting director Mario Bruno Fernandez and director of professional sports Xavi O’Callaghan overseeing the club’s moves.

Barcelona and Navarro have held discussions about his future over the past several weeks and reportedly decided not to terminate their contractual relationship. The former team captain signed a ten-year agreement with the club before his final playing season in 2017-18, and that deal has not yet expired.

Navarro became technical secretary of Barcelona’s youth basketball program in 2019 before replacing Nacho Rodriguez as general manager in April 2021.

Xevi Pujol is expected to take over as Barcelona’s new general manager at the beginning of next week following his departure from Baskonia.

The change is part of an extensive restructuring of Barcelona’s basketball department after three consecutive seasons without a trophy. Ten players from last season’s roster have left, while head coach Xavi Pascual and assistants Inigo Zorzano and Oscar Orellana moved to Dubai.

Despite criticism of the direction taken by the club in recent seasons, Barcelona continue to view Navarro as an important figure and valuable representative of their basketball program. His new role has not yet been specified.
