Real Madrid and Izan Almansa mutually agreed to part ways.

The departure of the 21-year-old forward-center was announced on Thursday.

Per the press release: Real Madrid C. F. and Izan Almansa have mutually agreed to end his time as a player for our club.

Real Madrid would like to thank Izan Almansa for his commitment and dedication during the season in which he represented our jersey and wishes him and his family all the best in this new chapter of his life.”

Heading to Gonzaga, the Spanish big is using this contract termination to finalize his enrollment with the Bulldogs as he navigates final NCAA eligibility protocols for the upcoming 2026–27 NCAA campaign. Los Blancos, however, are expected to retain his options if he decides to return to Europe in the future.

The Murcia native initially rejoined the Spanish capital club before the 2025–26 season. During this recent stint, he logged three brief outings in the EuroLeague, marking his first games in Europe’s premier club competition, and made 19 appearances in Spain’s domestic Liga Endesa, where he averaged 5.1 points per night.

At the international level, Almansa debuted for the senior national team of Spain in the EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers and remains a regular through the ongoing FIBA World Cup 2027 Qualifiers. This follows a decorated youth run, including gold medals at the FIBA U19 World Cup 2023 and FIBA U18 European Championship 2022.

After his first departure from Madrid in 2021, the prospect developed in the United States with Overtime Elite and the G League Ignite before spending a season with the Perth Wildcats in Australasia’s National Basketball League. After going undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft, presented by State Farm, he briefly returned to his homeland before taking this next step to college basketball.
