The Euroleague issued a statement announcing that starting from the 2027/28 season, 24 teams will participate in the elite competition.
There will be 21 franchises, with 13 being current shareholders, while the other eight spots will be decided by the Euroleague in the coming days.
Over 20 teams have applied or expressed a desire to become franchises and be a permanent part of the elite, but only 11 remain in the race for one of the franchise spots. Four more clubs have been put on hold.
Among these 11 teams, from which the Euroleague will choose eight, are: Crvena zvezda, Dubai, Hapoel Tel Aviv, London Lions, Napoli Basket, PAOK, Paris, Partizan Belgrade, Roma Maxima, Valencia, Virtus Bologna.
The fee per club will be around 80 million euros. Among those who were very keen on the idea but did not make the cut are Besiktas, Aris, and Hapoel Jerusalem, who will have to wait for the next expansion.
The final decision on who will receive these eight spots will be known by the end of September, when the new Euroleague season begins.
