In a rematch of this year’s EuroLeague semifinal, Olympiacos and Fenerbahce will open the Super Cup with their duel in Abu Dhabi.
The last two EuroLeague champions will have the honor of playing the first match in the history of this competition, and Sarunas Jasikevicius spoke before the game.
He emphasized that the Super Cup is different even for him and that it might take time for everyone to adjust, but that their opponent is Olympiacos, so they “have to win the game”.
“There’s nothing different. Honestly, it’s a competition that we still don’t fully know what it is and that we’re not used to. Maybe from now on it will be held every year.
Therefore, on the one hand we have to approach it a bit more relaxed. But our opponent is Olympiacos and we have to win the game. Honestly, it doesn’t matter in which competition we are playing.”
Jasikevicius also gave information about the current state of the roster before the game. Saras said that it is still not clear whether Shane Larkin will play, while the other players are largely ready.
“Shane’s status is questionable. Apart from him, we have almost everyone available,” adding that he thinks that Talen Horton-Tucker will play.
