The Israeli team is pushing for a return to Tel Aviv. Until then, Maccabi will settle for relocating from Belgrade to Limassol.
As Yiannis Ioannou, President of the Cyprus Sports Organisation, revealed to the Cyprus News Agency, the “Spyros Kyprianou” Arena, which has a capacity of 8,000, is ready to host Maccabi Tel Aviv’s EuroLeague games. This is the arena that hosted Group C of EuroBasket 2025, featuring Cyprus and Greece.
The EuroLeague has had a letter confirming the suitability of the “Spyros Kyprianou” Arena since October 2. The venue was inspected on October 6 in the presence of representatives from the Cyprus Sports Organisation, the Cyprus Police, the “People’s Team” and the arena’s management. Another meeting will take place in the coming days, as important decisions regarding everyone’s safety still need to be made.
The President of the Cyprus Sports Organisation, Yiannis Ioannou, added that the final announcement is expected from the competition’s governing body itself. However, he also revealed the first game that will be played there: Maccabi Tel Aviv vs. Real Madrid on October 22, in the seventh round.
Therefore, Maccabi Tel Aviv’s game against Olimpia Milano on October 8, in the fourth round, is expected to be its final game at Belgrade’s Aleksandar Nikolić Hall. The club has used the venue as its home court since hostilities between Israel and Hamas began on October 7, 2023, followed by the wider escalation of the war in the Middle East.
