A major drama is unfolding in Greece, where the Greek federation president Vangelis Liolios has allegedly been arrested, along with some well-known Greek former or current referees.
Among them are Elias Koromilas and Vasiliki Tsaroucha, a Greek woman who also officiates Euroleague matches.
This news has sparked comments from numerous basketball players, and the fact that Tsaroucha is under investigation for alleged bribery was also commented on by Patrick Beverley, who played for PAOK last season before joining Boulazac Basket.
“She reffed my game vs Panathinaikos, I knew it. A shame,” wrote the former NBA player.
The investigation concerns suspected bribery offenses under sports legislation. According to the reports, the individuals concerned had previously been summoned to provide explanations as suspects but did not appear.
Authorities expected to take the arrested individuals to Athens police headquarters and bring them before a prosecutor on Thursday, October 22, for the next stage of proceedings. The reported allegations have not been established in court.
