Real Madrid extended their winning streak across all competitions to ten games after defeating Fenerbahce Tarfin at the Movistar Arena. While the victory pushed their record to 6-3 in the 2026–27 EuroLeague Regular Season, Thursday night was spoiled by a concerning injury to Mikael Jantunen.
The Finnish forward has been a key piece for the roster this season, but he went down during the second quarter and could not put any weight on his foot. He went straight to the locker room and sat out the rest of the Round 9 fixture.
After the buzzer, head coach Pedro Martínez confirmed that Jantunen suffered a plantar fascia injury. The exact damage remains unclear until medical evaluations on Friday.
“It doesn’t look good, but they’ll run tests tomorrow,” the Los Blancos play-caller did not hide his concern when addressing the media. “We don’t know the extent of the injury, but I don’t think he’ll play this week, and I’d be surprised if he played next week.”
Losing the 26-year-old forward forces lineup adjustments.
Through nine EuroLeague appearances this season, the Helsinki native has averaged 6.3 points and 2.6 rebounds.
He is a reliable veteran with 83 games in Europe’s top-tier league, a journey that took off shortly after he helped Paris secure the BKT EuroCup title in 2024.
This setback would perhaps also impact the Finnish national team. Finland is currently preparing to resume action in the FIBA World Cup 2027 Qualifiers, facing Slovenia on November 27.
