Real Madrid faces a demanding stretch after point guard Facundo Campazzo sustained a leg muscle injury. Head coach Pedro Martinez confirmed on Tuesday that the veteran playmaker is sidelined indefinitely.
Facu has been reliable early in the 2026–27 season, averaging 9.7 points and 4.9 assists across nine EuroLeague games, including three starts. His absence takes away a two-time champion and former NBA guard right when the team needs stability across domestic and continental competitions.
After his first Madrid stint ended in 2020, the Cordoba native played 138 NBA games with the Denver Nuggets and Dallas Mavericks before returning in 2023.
Now placed on the injury list, 35-year-old Campazzo joined Gabriel Deck, Usman Garuba, Mikael Jantunen, and Theo Maledon. In a positive update, Nick Smith Jr. has been medically cleared from a recent foot injury. He is expected to suit up for Los Blancos in Round 10 of the EuroLeague Regular Season against Panathinaikos Aktor at Movistar Arena on Wednesday.
However, the shortage of available bodies is forcing the front office to shift roster plans. A proposed loan for Max Shulga is expected to be placed on hold. Also, 65-year-old Martinez publicly admitted he wants to recall Eli Ndiaye from his stint at Asisa Joventut.
Despite limited options, the team based in the Spanish capital still holds the top spot in Liga Endesa Regular Season with a 6–0 start. The EuroLeague is much tighter. At 6–3, they sit one game behind Panathinaikos and defending champion Olympiacos.
