James Feldeine has announced his retirement from basketball at the age of 38, reflecting on a career that took him from Washington Heights in New York to clubs across Europe and beyond.

“I’m officially retiring from the game that has given me so much in this life,” he wrote on social media. “From the very beginning, basketball gave me a joy I couldn’t find in anything else I did. It became more than just a game. It was always my safe place.”

After playing college basketball at Quinnipiac, Feldeine began his professional career with Breogan in 2010. He later represented clubs including Fuenlabrada, Cantu, Panathinaikos, Crvena zvezda and Hapoel Jerusalem. His honors include a Greek championship, a Serbian championship and two domestic cups apiece in Greece and Israel.

“Growing up in the tough streets of Washington Heights, New York City, I could have never imagined all the places this game would take me, the people I would meet, or the experiences I would be blessed to have,” Feldeine continued.

The Dominican Republic international also left a message for young players still fighting for recognition.

“To all the overlooked kids out there, keep pushing because I am the perfect example of blocking out the noise and chasing your dreams!” he wrote. “The game may be over, but the memories, lessons, and love for basketball will stay with me forever.”
