Which are the individual records that were “broken” in this season’s Euroleague and which are… on the brink of being history? Which players will remember this season for many years with great pride because of their accomplishments? Eurohoops has the answers.

The sun will soon set in another Euroleague season. The only thing that remains is the grand appointment in Berlin (13-15/05) where we will find which among CSKA Moscow, Fenerbahce, Laboral Kutxa and Lokomotiv Kuban will be the new European champion.

Until we reach the end of the road to the German capital, we have gone through seven months in which 478 games have taken place, with 24 clubs and the participation of 359 players. Some of them stood out because… they broke, or are quite close in doing so, the top individual single-season records in twelve different statistical categories.

So let’s focus on each one of these categories, pointing out the new recordmen, the players who are on the brink the top, as also the ones that were dethroned.

Marjanovic and the three suitors

Νάντο ΝτεΚολό

The former star of Crvena Zvezda, Boban Marjanovic, completed an exceptional season last year, which brought him at the top of the list of the most points gathered in the index rating system in a single season. The Serbian center reached a number of 616 in 24 games! But he shouldn’t feel quite… comfortable because with only two games remaining, three of his peers who will play in the upcoming Final Four, will have the chance to surpass his record. The one with the greater chances is Nando De Colo, of CSKA Moscow who is only 16 points behing (600), while Giannis Bourousis (Laboral Kutxa) and Malcolm Delaney (Lokomotiv Kuban) have a more difficult task ahead of them since they are in the fourth and fith place with 580 and 561 points, respectively. Of course, Marjanovic’s average number was far greater, since he managed to reach the afformentioned impressive number without even playing in the playoffs…

A Frenchman threatens the record of the late Ford
An incredible scores who “left” us in 2004, in only 33 years of age, holds the record of accumulated points scored in a single season (495) for 15 years! Of course we are talking about Alphonso Ford who achieved this record in only 20 games, competing with the jersey of Olympiacos, in 2001/2002. Last year, American player Andrew Goudelock came close to reaching the top but failed for only two points. This season, everything shows that the first scorer of the competition, Nando De Colo, who will also receive the related “Alphonso Ford award”, will break this achievement, but by playing in seven games more. What he needs is 23 points in the two remaining games. From the fourth position Malcolm Delaney also has some chances, albeit fewer.

More specifically, he needs 18 rebounds to become the first in accumulated rebounds, surpassing the 256 with which Boban Marjanovic finished  last season. Moreover, by grabbing two more defensive rebounds, he will climb to the top of the related list ahead of the first, so far, Nemanja Bjelica. Will he make it?

He needs only three more to surpass Justin Dentmon, while Malcolm Delaney and Darius Adams are… lurking from close distance.

The enduring American

Μάλκολμ Ντιλέινι 3

Malcolm Delaney appears to be tireless, since in an age when basketball is performed in extremely high speed, he stays on court for 33’18” per game. If we multiply that with the 29 games in which he has participated, we have 965’51” presence in this season’s competition, something that is a record. This is the seventh category in which he is either on top or has good chances of climbing up there. Something that shows the great season he is having.
