The president of the Hellenic Basketball Federation, George Vassilakopoulos addressed the new Euroleague format and its consequences to the domestic leagues.

“The propaganda campaign of Euroleague that states the new format will launch the game to new heights causes worry and speculation”, states Vassilakopoulos.

“The masters of communication overlook, and deliberately so, I fear, the completely negative effects of the new format on the athleticism part of European basketball, the domestic leagues and the process of producing new players.”

Not only that, but the former FIBA Europe president continues: “Soon, I’ll be presenting a thorough and detailed analysis on these negative effects. About the diseuropeanization of… European basketball, the master plan of extinction of domestic leagues and the uncontrolled power given to Euroleague’s referees. These are some of the reasons there needs to be a thought or two from those who want to truly contribute and not just lightheartedly celebrate to no avail.

On that matter, one last note: Entertainment, fun and sports are three different things. By confusing these concepts in order to make an impression, we only offer the worst services in sports.”
