Baskonia is with its backs against a wall since no team has ever come back from a 2 – 0 deficit in the EuroLeague playoff series. Following Game 2 vs CSKA, head coach Sito Alonso mentioned that his team can’t be competitive enough because they are not “receiving the deserve their respect”.

“We respect CSKA incredibly they have been working very hard,” said Alonso. They have been having a great season. And they played a great game tonight. It’s my first season in Baskonia. I knew them before signing because of history of the club has. The titles, Final Four appearances, great season even this year. Our team has been in the first 8 positions 90% of the times during the regular season. Because of all that Baskonia deserves respect. We feel we are not receiving the same respect sometimes and we have to make the same things differently. I said congratulations to CSKA. But we are here and deserve we have to have the same rights at the same moment. We are trying to make everything to win but we cannot. We are facing one of the best teams in Europe and we cannot compete.”

“The players are in the most important basketball situation. I want to protect them with contacts. I love to play very hard. This is the last thing i want to say,” he concluded.

When asked if he’s talking about the foul called on Kyle Hines in the very last second that gave the American center the opportunity to grant his team victory from the line, Alonso answered, “Two games in a row and 80 minutes. It’s not about that last moment.”
