Daniel Hackett is parting ways with Olympiacos and Eurohoops contacted the player after the announcement. The conversation was rather surprising, as the player himself burst into tears in the middle of it.

I chatted with coach Sfairopoulos and he told me about the decision. It was a tough moment for me, but I completely understand him. The club has made a decision, they don’t want to risk the fact that I haven’t played for six months and we should respect that. I didn’t expect things to turn out this way, but that’s life.”

“I will forever be “Red”. I want to thank my great coach for all that he’s done for me and for the conversation we’ve had today”. Hackett talked with Giannis Sfairopoulos on the phone, and both sides burst into tears.

“I want to thank everyone in Olympiacos and, above all, the fans, for all their love these 2 years and for the hashtag thing (#RenewHackett).”

That was the breaking point for the player, who burst into tears again, for the remainder of his conversation with Eurohoops.

“I have something important to say to the fans. No one should be sad or mad about this decision. It’s business, I understand it, totally. We should all respect that and keep all the great moments we’ve had together”.
