With two weeks to go until the start of the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season, Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz has extended its temporary contract with former Olympics gold medalist Carlos Delfino while other players recover from injury.

Delfino (1.98 meters, 35 years old) has been practicing with Baskonia during preseason under his former Argentina teammate Pablo Prigioni, the club’s new head coach. By putting him on its first team roster, Baskonia is covering the absence of two players, Jordan McRae and Patricio Garino, who are recovering from injuries.

Delfino played two EuroLeague seasons between 2002 and 2004, averaging 12.2 points over 37 games and helping Skipper Bologna reach the championship game at the 2004 Final Four. Later that summer he won the gold medal with Argentina at the Olympic Games in Athens. He spent eight of the next nine seasons in the NBA with Detroit, Toronto, Milwaukee and Houston. He also averaged 13 points for Khimki Moscow Region in the 2008-09 EuroCup season. He played last with Argentina at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil and joined Boca Juniors of his home country briefly last spring.
