Euroleague Basketball and its new regional sponsor, Spanish energy giant Endesa, were joined by a player from each of the five Turkish Airlines EuroLeague teams in Spain on Tuesday to power up the new season at a tip-off celebration in Madrid.

President of Endesa, Mr. Borja Pardo and President of EuroLeague Jordi Bertomeu were joined by five EuroLeague stars, Jordan McRae, Fernando San Emeterio, Dejan Musli, Fabian Causeur and Victor Claver to mark the official start to the three-year agreement between the two sides.

As Marca reported, the EuroLeague players didn’t talk only about the agreement of the new regional sponsor but also expressed their opinion about FIBA’s new calendar ahead of the World Cup Qualifiers.

Victor Claver of Barcelona said the following: “I hope we can reach a mutually beneficial agreement because the players are in the worst situation. If everything goes like this, we will have to be the ones who decide, “ he stated in the presentation of the Endesa sponsorship agreement with EuroLeague.

Fabien Causeur, Real Madrid‘s representative was more critical about the new calendar: “I do not like the system.” He added, “For a player, it is not easy to go from a competition with your club to another competition every other day. In football it is normal, but we are not used to it. I do not analyze competition systems, just I ask when is the next game, I go out and I perform.”

Additionally, Fernando San Emeterio of Valencia shared his opinion on this issue. “As a player, you want to play every game of the season, but without having a game every two days. I hope there will be an agreement, but I cannot analyze too much the competition system. I just like to play”.

Finally, Jordan McRae of Baskonia said that he cannot wait to start the new season. “You can already feel the atmosphere and excitement in Vitoria, even in preseason! We are looking forward to starting the competition.”
