It was not simply a defeat, but a nightmare for Unicaja Malaga against Valencia that took another dose of payback for last season’s EuroCup finals.

Unicaja Malaga fell victim to a brutal offensive attack by Valencia and a blowout loss that, according to head coach Joan Plaza, was more or less… anticipated.

“We knew when we came here that after what happened last season, we could suffer a defeat like this and we talked about it with the players. But it is true that we are playing four games in just one week and some of our new players do not really believe that things like this can happen here. We knew perfectly that after we won the EuroCup here last season, Valencia would put a lot of intensity, pressure, desire or whatever you want to say to beat us like they did,” Plaza said during the post-game press conference.

“If they had a chance to beat us by 50, they wouldn’t settle for 20. We knew that and talked about it several times this week, and it finally happened. We need to congratulate Valencia 100% because they played better than us, with great intensity, and they deserved to win, of course,” he added.
