During his official presentation as the new Baskonia head coach, Pedro Martinez expressed his “pride” discussed what he and his players must proceed so that the team gets back on a winning track.

“I think I know what I have to do, but I can’t do it alone. I need the help of the staff, the players, and the fans. We need to improve in defense, ball circulation, and transition,” Martinez said.

“It’s not pleasant and even less so because there is a certain anxiety about results. Know the players’ opinion and know they feel or what they think about what is happening. Communication is a big part of our work,” he added.

“I hope we are able to change the dynamics and get Baskonia back where it deserves to be. At the very least, be competitive against all teams. I like the predisposition that players have. When things have gone wrong they continue to fight. it feels like a team with attitude. Now the goal is to play as a team because we need the greatest improvement there,” the Spanish coach commented.

Martinez replaced Pablo Prigioni who decided to step down after a series of defeats, stating that he doesn’t want to “do any more harm.”

“It would be a mistake to think that the current situation of defeats is because of one person,” Martinez said. “We win and we lose together. Responsibility has to fall on everyone, not just one person. The competition continues and it is in our hand to see where we deserve to be.”

Sergio Valdeolmillos and David Gill will be Martinez’s assistants.
