European basketball mourns the death of Tassos Stefanou

The former general manager of Panathinaikos, 72 years old Tassos Stefanou, died today. EuroLeague and Eurocup games will start with a minute of silence, honoring his memory.

A beloved figure by many in European basketball, Stefanou played basketball for Panathinaikos in the 60s and after his playing days he was an active member of the team management for almost 50 years.

He was synonymous with Panathinaikos, one of the key persons in Greek basketball and one of the most respected contributors in the modern era of European basketball.

Among the first who expressed their sorrow from his loss with Olympiacos and the union of Olympiacos‘ former players.  Born on the 7th of July 1945, Stefanou was a member of Panathinaikos’ roster that won the Greek league in 1967. He had also served as Panathinaikos coach.
