Valencia Basket prevailed over Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens in the final minutes with Erick Green scoring 21 points.
Xavi Pascual’s comments on the game: “It is very clear that tonight we did not play well. We could not score in many moments where we had an advantage, under the basket and behind the arc. After that in defense, we had problems in offensive rebounds. If I’m not mistaken, Valencia scored 14 points after offensive rebounds and this is why we lost the game that went point by point. We played probably one of the worst games in the season so far.” Moreover, he said: “Congratulations to Valencia and its coach for the win. I don’t think we had a bad start to the game or that we didn’t prepare the game well; it wasn’t like that. Sometimes you simply have a bad night, things don’t work or you and you don’t play well. You don’t hit shots and moreover, we were slow when it came to creating plays. We finished the game with 10 assists and 14-15 turnovers, strange numbers for us, and this is why we lost this game.
On the other hand, Erick Green stated the importance of the win: “It is a big win for us. We have been struggling for a while, losing 10 straight. This is huge and it is going to give us our confidence back. Hopefully, we can get some more wins and get back on track in the second half of the season. We went down, but we kept fighting hard. That’s one thing about this group: the resilience we have as a team. We keep fighting and fighting; we lost a lot of close games this year, but I am glad that we finally closed this one out.”
