Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz conquered Olympiacos Piraeus at home with 86-54 in Round 17 of Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.

The winners improved to an 8-9 record, while Olympiacos now stands at 12-5.

The key: A dominant 6-0 run early in the second half paced Baskonia to a double-digit lead, which shut down the Greek side and at 26′, Olympiacos‘ bench was charged with a technical. Τhe deficit climbed up to double-digits, with Baskonia taking charge 72-44 at 30’.

The visiting side kicked in with an 8-0 run with efficiency from the perimeter, as opposed to their opponents that scored all of their points from inside the paint. The first period ended with the Reds leading 21-16 and Spanoulis breaking another record in the competition.

Baskonia stepped up in the second quarter, with Poirier dominating the paint, then Janning succeded in his team’s first attempt from the three-point line (25-27 at 15′). Garino was the x-factor for the hosts, which combined with 0/3 three-pointer attempts by Olympiacos, led the Vitoria side to a 36-30 lead at halftime.

The final period didn’t mean to change much to the outcome of the game, as Baskonia only sealed off their great victory.

The star: Johannes Voigtmann led the winning side with 19 points and five rebounds

Not enough: Georgios Printezis was the only player of Olympiacos to score in double-digits, finishing the game with 13 points.
