Brose Bamberg defeated Panathinaikos Superfoods Athens 95-74  and Augustine Rubit had his best EuroLeague game as he finished with a career-high 26 points and 8 rebounds. The 28-year old shot 8/9 from the field while also making 9/12 free-throws.

Rubit was the catalyst for the winners, starting on the right foot from the start. And when the team needed him, in the late third and fourth quarter he converted and iced the game together with Dorrell Wright who added 15.

And while both did their job on the offensive end, they also had help from the rest of the team. By the numbers, Bamberg is the worst offense in the league, but they scored 95 points on EuroLeague’s third-best defense.

The Greeks couldn’t cut it on both ends of the floor. Panathinaikos‘ shooting percentages were low and Pascual’s team could not make a shot. PAO converted on just 5/21 three-pointers and unlike the visitors, the hosts shot 71% from inside the arc, attacking the rim all night long.

And that’s why Nick Calathes’ career night did not come with a win. Panathinaikos’ leader was incredible. In the third period, he put on a show, scoring 15 points, while also having two assists and one steal in ten minutes. He eventually finished with a career-high 31 points (13/20 FG) and 7 assists. That was the only moment in the game in which Panathinaikos, which tied the score at 55, seemed capable of winning.

Bamberg went up ahead by double-digits (37-25) at halftime. And despite their comeback, with Calathes on the bench, Panathinaikos was trailing by double-digits (68-57) with just seven minutes on the clock. It’s a win that gives hope to Bamberg and also a step back in Panathinaikos’ quest for the home court advantage.
