Baskonia is not yet qualified to the playoffs, but after this week and the road win against Barcelona, this seems like a formality.

The final score (86-73) illustrates which team had a real motivation to win the game and also confirmed once again the fact that Baskonia is playing its best basketball of the season. The guests proved to be too much for Barcelona, especially in the second half.

Led by Vincent Poirier who had 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists, the players of coach Pedro Martinez after having a three-point advantage at halftime (43-40) dominated the second half and led even by 19 points (84-65) three minutes before the final buzzer.

In total five players scored in double-digits and Johannes Voigtmann with 17 points was the top scorer for the winners. On the other hand, Petteri Koponen scored 21 points, but neither he nor his teammates could react especially in the last quarter.

After all, Barcelona had lost any chance for the playoffs, long before this game and that was obvious on crunch time. And also in the battle for the rebounds, as Baskonia dominated the boards with 34 against 22.

After this result, Baskonia has a 15-13 record, a two-win advantage over Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv, which dropped to the ninth spot in the standings (13-15) and the Israelis have to play in Vitoria next week.
