In a game that it was all about grit and grind, Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz prevailed with 83-72 over Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv and the ticket the playoffs.
The game was decided in the last quarter which started with the hosts having just a three-point lead (56-53). Patricio with two break-away dunks and a steal made it a seven-point game (60-53) and even if Maccabi cut it again to three twice (60-57, 62-59) they couldn’t turn the tables and gain some real momentum.
With three minutes left Baskonia led by nine (73-64) and that difference proved to be enough. Luka Vildoza sealed the deal with a three that made the score 77-67 with 90 seconds left.
Johannes Voigtmann scored 14 points, Garino added 11 to go along with two steals and one block. Rodrigue Beaubois scored 10 points and four more players had nine points each.
Pierre Jackson scored 14 points for Maccabi, Artsiom Parakhouski and DeShaun Thomas scored 12 points each but it was far from enough.
Maccabi simply couldn’t get stops in the last quarter with Baskonia scoring 27 points. The pressure of the guests was more than obvious with the team making just six free throws in 13 attempts.
