Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos was fined 120,000€ by EuroLeague Basketball for attending Game 1 of the quarterfinal series against Real Madrid.

Giannakopoulos attended the match despite the 5-month ban that EuroLeague imposed on him in February, following a series of controversial posts he had made οn his personal Instagram profile. It was a given that his presence in OAKA arena would bring a fine by EuroLeague.

The sum of the fine was doubled because Giannakopoulso had previously been punished for the same offense after attending the EuroLeague regular season game vs. Olympiacos.

“In EuroLeague, they are probably always occupied with Panathinaikos,” was the reaction by the Greek club.

Giannakopoulos plans to also attend Game 2, Thursday (19/4). Panathinaikos is leading the series 1 – 0 after routing Real Madrid 95 – 67 in Game 1.
