In a pivotal Game 3, Zalgiris Kaunas easily defeated Olympiacos Piraeus 80 – 60 and is one win away from Belgrade’s Final Four.

It was a heated and physical contest but Zalgiris‘ second quarter played a major role in the victory. Jasikevicius’ team was up 16 points (42-26), after going on an 18-2 run. The first half ended with the home side on top by 11 (47-36) points as the visitors went on a mini 0-6 run of their own.

With Vassilis Spanoulis leading the way in the third period, Olympiacos cut the gap to single figures (53-46), but could not get closer. Kaunas’ team responded with Jankunas doing it all, scoring nine points in the third (62-47). From that point, the visitors could not come back.

Zalgiris’ big three of Pangos, Jankunas, and Davies was on point. Kevin Pangos put up 12 points for the winners, while veteran Paulius Jankunas had also a solid night with 13 points and six rebounds. Brandon Davies added a game-high 18 points.

For the losing side, ‘Kill-Bill’ posted 14 points.

Olympiacos‘ frontcourt players could not compete with Zalgiris’, as injuries played a critical role. Nikola Milutinov (3 pts) and Georgios Printezis (3 pts / 1/10 FG) played injured after getting injections before the game to lessen the pain, but it was evident that they weren’t their real selves.
