Due to the fines imposed to Panathinaikos, the EuroLeague didn’t send to the Greens the sum of 670.000 euros.

According to Panathinaikos sources, the payment should have been made until the 15th of April, however, no money has been received by the Greens.

Panathinaikos admits that the EuroLeague is delaying the payment because of the fines that were imposed to the club and to Dimitris Giannakopoulos. However, the club believes that the payment should have been made since Panathinaikos can appeal the fines and they consider this decision one more “hostile” move by the EuroLeague.

According to EuroLeague sources, what happened is the usual practice of the league according to its rules. Since the fines are already imposed, the money is retained from distribution. If Panathinaikos appeals and the fines are lifted, then the money is paid back to the club.

In this particular case, the payment is delayed until the end of the playoffs due to Giannakopoulos’ intention to attend all games despite his ban. That might mean that the total sanctions could be even higher than the amount of this particular installment. The payment to Panathinaikos is expected to be processed after the last playoffs game and the total sum of fines will be deducted.
