BELGRADE – After taking down CSKA Moscow in the semifinal, Real Madrid is in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Final. Luka Doncic had a performance for the record books, and coach Laso was pleased for the hard work his players put in throughout the year.
Real Madrid‘s coach also mentioned that back in December, not many people believed that Real could reach this far.
“We kept on working, and now we are playing the final. I am sure not many people thought about this in December. Fenerbahce is a great team; they have many great players… We are talking an unbelievable team that works very hard. They attack the ball, they put the pressure, have a great rotation… When you talk about a game between Fenerbahce and Madrid, you are talking about two great teams, and it will be a good game Sunday. I read something about a soccer coach who everybody considered to be very offensive, and yet he only worked defense on practices. If you want to run, play open court, you have to work on defense. We stayed on our game plan, we did the right rotations, and everybody was 100 percent focused.”
As for the semifinal against CSKA Moscow, Laso kept it simple: “We missed a lot of free throws. But if we win a game like this missing 14 free throws, I guess it means we did many other things well. When we had a game that was as bad as Game 1 in the playoffs, it made us react. We got together; we knew we had to stay together. Now we are getting people back; we need them healthy: Llull, Facu..”
