Despite CSKA‘s failure to retain their Euroleague title, the team won another VTB League championship and the CSKA president sent a clear message regarding the team’s head coach.
In an interview with iz.ru, Vatutin had this to say in regards to Itoudis’ future:
” Dimitris Itoudis has a contract with us for the 2018/2019 season. We had a conversation but I cannot share details. I hope you understand.”, he said.
For the team’s elimination in the final four, he added: ” Of course we are disappointed not just for the result but for the way we played. We had a good regular season, good playoffs but we failed in the final 4. However, in the VTB League, we won another title in the final 4 which is important as it’s the second best league in Europe after ACB. Nevertheless, it’s clear that the main objective for CSKA is winning the Euroleague.”, he added.
The team from Moscow is always amongst the favorites to make the final 4 but have won 2 titles in the last 10 years.
They have participated in 14 of the last 15 Euroleague final-4’s missing only the 2010-2011 one in Barcelona.
