David Blatt has signed a two-year contract with Olympiacos Piraeus to become the new head coach of the team. The deal is expected to become official by the Greek club quite soon.

This will be Blatt’s second stint in Greece, following a brief stretch he had with Aris Thessaloniki in 2010. He succeeds Giannis Sfairopoulos at the helm of the Reds.

The negotiations between Olympiacos and Blatt reached their conclusion today (25/6) when some final contract details were resolved. Blatt penned his deal with Olympiacos and will return to coaching in EuroLeague next season.

Blatt last coached Turkish club Darussafaka Istanbul. In his two seasons with Dacka, the Israeli-American coach helped the team reach the EuroLeague playoffs for the first time in the history of the club in 2017 and then in 2018, he led them to the EuroCup title.

Apart from numerous domestic titles, throughout his career Blatt has won the EuroLeague in 2014 with Maccabi Tel Aviv, the EuroBasket 2007 with the Russian national team, the bronze in the 2012 Olympic Games (also with Russia) plus the Eurochallenge title of 2005 as a coach of Dynamo St. Petersburg.

From 2014 to early 2016, Blatt served as the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, reaching the 2015 NBA Finals. The Cavs parted ways with Blatt early in 2016 but still send him a championship ring.
