Olympiacos will exercise the opt-out clause in American guard Brian Roberts’ contract and thus won’t keep the player in the upcoming season.

Roberts has been informed of Olympiacos‘ decision, the Greek club announced, shortly following the official hiring of David Blatt as the team’s new head coach.

With the exception of some notable games in road wins for Olympiacos, (against Fenerbahce, Panathinaikos, Olimpia Milano) Roberts’s overall performance was generally inconsistent for the Reds and didn’t meet the expectations that the club had of the player when he signed a contract in summer 2017 to return to Europe after five seasons in the NBA.

The 32-year-old veteran guard averaged 6.9 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists over 18:30 minutes per game in 32 EuroLeague appearances. Olympiacos failed to reach the Final Four after being eliminated by Zalgiris Kaunas in the quarterfinals.

In the Greek League, where Olympiacos lost the title to archrival Panathinaikos in the Finals, Roberts posted 8.2 points and 2.2 assists averaging 17 minutes per game.
